Parent victory as academy plans for St James Junior School halted

save st jamesPARENTS are claiming a victory after plans to convert St James Junior School into an academy were halted.

The Upton Street school in Tredworth was placed in special measures in September after education watchdog Ofsted criticised pupils’ achievement and teaching standards.

The Government requires every school which goes into special measures to become a sponsored academy and governors voted unanimously for the change to be made but it was met with strong opposition.

Pat Gifford, chairman of the governors, has this week announced the plans have been put on hold.
