Westminster primary school resists forced academisation.

Westminster primary school in Birmingham were recently told they were on Michael Gove’s hit list as an underperforming school. They were threatened with becoming a forced academy.

The Head called a meeting with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers and then Governors and suggested that the school should not dismiss volunteering to convert, rather than waiting to be pushed.

The staff called in their union representatives from the NUT, NASUWT, UNISON and the GMB. Most staffl signed a letter opposing their school becoming an academy.
The LA requested a meeting with the Head / Leadership team. We don’t know the outcome for the school yet.

Union members in the school are buoyed by their success in preventing their school from being forced to become an academy.
