Academy figures for December 2011

The latest government figures on Academies, released on 2nd December 2011, show that there are now 1463 academies open.

69 academies opened in November of which 33 were primary schools

44 academies opened in December of which 13 were primary schools

There have been no sponsored academies opened since September

333 primary schools have a funding agreement with a further 209 having applied to become an academy

57% of secondary schools have not applied to become academies

Only 3.5% of primary schools have applied or become academies

While Michael Gove and the DfE are clearly continuing to force the pace of change, in particular by labelling many primaries as ‘underperforming’ and attempting to intimidate Headteachers and Governors into converting, it is clear that they are finding it difficult.
