Academy chain OASIS have announced that 13 teachers are to be sacked. This led to protests by students at the academy on Tuesday.
NUT members at the academy have now voted to strike against the sackings.
Avis Gilmore, NUT North West regional secretary told the Anti Academies Alliance
“NUT members have shown how angry and frustrated they are with the way recent redundancies have been handled by voting yes to strike action. Oasis have pushed through a redundancy process which should have taken months into less than 5 weeks. They have not consulted properly with either the staff or the trade unions.
NUT, along with NASUWT, met with Oasis on Wednesday and put the members views forward. We are awaiting a response from them.”
The unions have given OASIS until 17th November to respond.

This news does not surprise me. I am a retired teacher with many friends still teaching, some of them in Oasis Academies. One thing that unites them is their dissatisfaction with the management of these institutions. These are people, some of whom have years of teaching and management experience and others with some years of teaching in local authority run schools.
