75% of converted academies are in Tory local authorities

75% of the schools that have converted to Academies are in local authorities which Conservatives either run or are in coalition. There are 772 schools out of 1031 in these local authorities.

In some Tory local authorities all schools have been advised to become academies,  with some encouraging academy chains to take over all their schools. This is part of Michael Gove’s drive to break up local education authorities and leave schools at the mercy of education chains, and the ever growing market in education.

Another interpretation of events could be that when Gove talks about local authorities failing to deliver quality education to pupils, he is referring to local authorities run by his own party…..
