Packed meeting against the forced take-over of Perry Wood Primary School

On Tuesday 19 July parents and staff at Perry Wood primary school in Worcester held a public meeting against being forced to become a ‘sponsored’ Academy. They are in the forefront of a new national campaign in which 200 ‘failing’ primary schools are threatened, with another 500 to come. This is different from ‘converter’ Academies, because the headteacher and governors are likely to be against the Academy, as they were at Perry Wood. Door-to-door leafletting of the 1960s council estate brought 113 people to the meeting. Staff wore Hands Off Perry Wood’ tee-shirts. Everyone there was determined to save their school.
