Do we have a say in whether our school becomes an academy?

I am support staff but am so strongly against the privatisation of our schools that I wouldn’t feel comfortable working in one.

Montgomery parents hand in 700 strong petition against forced academy

On Friday 6th January 2012 a petition and letters to individual governors were handed in to Montgomery School. The petition addressed to the head of governors constituted of 704 signatures, a signature for the future of every child at the school.

St Leonards Catholic Comprehensive abandons academy plans

St. Leonard’s Catholic Comprehensive School in Durham has now abandoned plans to convert to academy status. Now neither of the 2 best performing state secondary schools in the North East of England is going to become an academy.

Neston High School parents and staff oppose academy proposal

Officials from the three teaching Unions (NUT, NASUWT and ATL) and UNISON (representing support staff) met with their members at Neston High School on the 18th October. 43 opposed the proposal, 4 abstained – no-one was in favour of seeing the school become an Academy.
