Forced academisation

A Wood Green primary school which was controversially converted into an academy has been told it is making unsatisfactory progress.
Noel Park Primary School, on Gladstone Avenue, was forced into becoming an academy by Education Secretary Michael Gove in September, after it was judged as a ‘failing’ school.
But six months on, an Ofsted report released last week has revealed key failings in the academy’s leadership and ‘a very mixed and inconsistent picture of pupils’ progress across the school’.

Over 500 teachers and parents marched to the DFEE on Wednesday Night. They were joined by parents and children from Roke School and Gladstone Park Primary. Both schools are being forced by Michael Gove to become academies. Protesters, many wearing Gove masks braved snow and rain to march from Victoria to Sanctuary Buildings where Gove’s office is situated.

Lancashire’s county council leader has told schools to ban government “academy” brokers” from their premises.

In the latest battle over government attempts to force more schools to become academies Coun Geoff Driver has told headteachers the officials have no right to enter schools.
