HELLO, FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND RESEARCH,I AM PERSONALLY AFFECTED BY THIS ACADEMY WHERE I LIVE, RIGHT, THIS ACADEMY IS OWENED BY THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND, IT IS A CHARITY AND A TRUST, AND YES THEY OWN THE LAND, I HAVE READ THE DEEDS, IN MY OPINION IS LIKE A PRIVATE SCHOOL, BUT THE SECRETARY OF STATE PAYES THE EXPENSES,THE BODY THAT DECIDE IS THE GOVERNORS AND THEY ARE ALL FROM THE LOCAL CHURCH OF ENGLAND ,EXCEPT FOR ONE WHICH IS FROM THE COUNCIL, THE REST WERE ALL APPOINTED BY THE DIOCESE OF SCHOOLS OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND, MY OPINION ,THIS IS A PRIVATE SCHOOL, RUN BY THE CHURCH, AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TAX PAYERS,THE LAND IT IS BUILT ,MOST OF IT WAS COUNCIL LAND, THEY EVEN TOOK THE SMALL PARK..OF COURSE THEY HAVE RULES, WHO IS GOING TO CHALLENGE THEM, WHEN THE TRUSTEES ARE BARRISTERS, REVERENDS, EXPERT ON FINANCES, AND ALL ANGLICANS.THIS ACADEMY I KNOW OF SAYS’ A PRIVATE CHARITABLE COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE, AND GUESS WHAT ,MOST OF THE NAMES ON THE COMPANY PROFILE ARE ”YES” THE SAME GOVERNORS, YOU ‘GUESSED IT”..DOES THIS HELP? CONCLUSION,ACADEMIES ARE OWENED BY COMPANIES, INDIVIDUALS, RELIGIOUS DENOMINATIONS.IS THIS INTEGRATION FOR OUR CHILDREN OR SEPARATION ?
THIS ACADEMY I READ THE DEEDS, WAS GIVEN BY THE SECRETATY OF STAT 36 MILLION POUNDS, THEY SAY THAT THEY SPENT 30 MILLION, I WONDER WHERE ARE THE 6 MILLION GONE ?FOR WHAT? THEY GET ALL THE YEARLY EXPENSES PAID BY THE SECRETAY OF STATE FOR EDUCATION, MEANING THE TAX PAYERS PURSE, MY COMPLIMENT TO THE ACADEMY BRAIN,A PRIVATE SCHOOL FOR FREE, HURRAH……..

Apologies, the previous comment is not an answer to your questions.

The diffrence between an academy and free school is that a free school is a ‘fresh start’ academy. Free schools are new schools but there are run as academies.

The benefits of sponsorship often appear fairly nebulous. Maybe for some it is a knighthood or ticking the box of ‘corporate social responsibility’. But behind the role of sponsors is the development of ‘edu-business’. The biggest academy sponsors are all involved in creating chains of schools which have subsidiary company providing services. These companies usually make a handsome profit. Thus sponsorsship is about building ‘market share’ in the education sector.

harris is opening a free school in peckham to act as a feeder to academy at peckham. It is a logical extension for a academy sponsor to attempt to control the numbers of children the secondary schools will intake.

increasingly academies are looking to either negotiate with a primary academy to act as ‘feeder’ or convert a existing LEA primary school to be an academy. If neither of those options is possible they will look at a free school.
