The Anti-Academies Alliance (AAA) are delighted to announce that their new patron is the MP for Norwich South, Clive Lewis.
Clive is a well established broadcast journalist and was previously BBC eastern region’s chief political reporter. He is a seasoned campaigner who used his maiden speech in the House of Commons to speak out passionately against the forced academisation of Hewett School in his constituency.Bridget Chapman, Chair of the AAA, said,“We are very proud to have the support of Clive Lewis. His steely determination to resist the privatisation and marketization of education matches ours, and we believe this will be a very successful working relationship.”
Speaking about his new role Clive Lewis said,“I am delighted to be the new patron for the Anti-Academies Alliance. I am heartened by the AAA’s determination to fight back against the the government’s programme of academisation which, in too many cases, has led to a lack of accountability and transparency.Increasingly under the academies programme, we are seeing the interests of children, parents and communities frozen out while organisations gobble up our local authority schools. I will commit to working alongside them, and with teachers, to challenge bad practice until we get a system which puts pupils before profit once again.”
